Flu Shot Alternative

It’s that time of the year when doctors and the news channels are all pushing flu shots. They say this is going to be the worst year ever. Everyone should get a flu shot.

I have never gotten a flu shot, no one in my household has ever gotten a flu shot and I don’t remember anyone ever getting the flu. I personally have had the flu two times that I can remember. Once in my late teens and again in my adulthood but I don’t remember when, it’s been a while.

My cold/allergy/flu preventative is my  Super Healthy Tea. Along with some basic healthy living, we are able to build our immune system to stand up against colds, allergies and even the flu. As soon as I start hearing adds for flu shots, I start adding more of this:

Drink plenty of fluids. Water, warm tea, chicken soup and OJ with a little ACV.

Get plenty of rest. 7-8 hours a night is suggested for adults.

A healthy diet. Eating a good variety of mostly raw and real foods with limited processed foods, sugars and very limited fast food if at all.

Exercise. It can be a daily walk, bike ride, tennis…whatever gets us moving and gets our heart rate up a little.

Essential Oils

God is good! He provides…everything!

I’ve been looking up information about essential oils since I started using them almost a year ago. Do they really work? What does each one do? Which company is better? Does it really matter where they’re grown? I try to include the benefits of whatever I’m using in each post, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

Here is a great series that was mentioned on Facebook this morning about just this topic.

I hope it helps you make informed decisions.

Making Natural Glass Cleaner

Streak-free, Clean smelling, all natural glass cleaner.

You’ll Need:

3 cups water

1 cup vinegar

essential oils – I use about 5 drops of Tea Tree and 5 drops of citrus scented.

Spray bottle

Process:

Pour all ingredients into bottle and give a little swirl.

To Use:

Spray and wipe with a paper towel or glass cloth.

Making Carpet & Upholstery Flea Powder

You’ll need:

1 cup either powdered salt, Borax or Diatomaceous Earth

20 drops of essential oils

bowl

airtight container

Process:

Pour powder into a bowl being careful not to inhale. If using salt, you’ll have to grind it first. I use a  coffee grinder.

Add 20 drops off various essential oils. The best oils for flea treatments are lemon, rosemary, citronella, cedar, peppermint and geranium.

Mix well

Pour into an airtight container. Something with a shaker top would work well.

To use:

Sprinkle lightly all over carpet ,on and under furniture and cushions, in areas where pets lay and in pet beds.

Leave overnight.

Vacuum.

You can leave it longer in places like behind furniture and under cushions that are not accessible to people, kids and small pets.

*As with all powders, be careful not to inhale while mixing and pouring.

Making All Natural Carpet Deodorizer

All Natural Carpet Deodorizer is one of the easiest cleaners to  make. The hardest part is finding a shaker container to keep it in.

You’ll need:

1 cup of baking soda

20 drops of essential oils

bowl

airtight container

Process:

Pour 1 cup baking soda into a bowl.

Add 20 drops off various essential oils. I like to use Tea Tree oil for a disinfectant and then something that I’m in the mood to smell. I usually go with a citrus, but you could also use lavender for calming, vanilla or peppermint during the holidays…

Mix well

Pour into an airtight container. Something with a shaker top would work well.

To use:

Sprinkle lightly all over carpet, in certain areas or in smelly shoes or dog beds.

Leave it for  a few minutes.

Vacuum.
